“Porous Borders” will be a unique experience made possible thanks to the collaboration of seven TEDx organizers from different European countries gathered to talk about refugees in a “relay race format”: different cities, different speakers, different perspectives for fresh inspiration and new ideas on this complex theme.
TEDxGenova, TEDxRoma, TEDxCesena, TEDxReggioEmilia, TEDxMünchen, TEDxGranVia (of Madrid), TEDxLeicester and TEDxLyon are part of this journey.

Nowadays we are facing one of the greatest human flows in history.

According to the United Nations reports, wars and economic crisis push 33,000 people daily to move from their countries looking for peace and fundamental rights. Women, men and children die every day on the long journey to salvation in an attempt to cross seas, borders, physical, political and cultural barriers. Far from being a temporary phenomenon, this issue requires immediate responses but also a wider reflection on human rights to face new long-term challenges.

In this framework we intend to contribute to a constructive debate at an international level, with a glocal format that transcends borders and opens new scenarios for a deeper understanding of this matter and the people that it involves.

What is a border? Is it something that protects or that divides us? What if it became porous? Would it be a risk or an opportunity?

With this TEDx Salon we invite speakers and our communities to explore the theme from multiple points of view, offering a safe space to discuss an uncomfortable topic in a singular manner.

“Porous Borders” è un evento unico, reso possibile grazie alla collaborazione di sette organizzatori TEDx di diversi paesi europei riuniti per parlare di rifugiati in un formato a ‘staffetta’ unico nel suo genere: città diverse, speaker diversi, prospettive diverse per nuove ispirazioni e nuove idee su questo tema complesso.
TEDxCesena, TEDxRoma, TEDxGenova, TEDxReggioEmilia, TEDxMünchen, TEDxGranVia (di Madrid), TEDxLeicester e TEDxLyon fanno parte di questo viaggio.

Oggigiorno siamo di fronte a uno dei più grandi flussi umani della storia.

Secondo i rapporti delle Nazioni Unite, le guerre e la crisi economica spingono 33.000 persone al giorno a trasferirsi dai loro paesi in cerca di pace e diritti fondamentali. Donne, uomini e bambini muoiono ogni giorno nel lungo viaggio verso la salvezza nel tentativo di attraversare mari, confini, barriere fisiche, politiche e culturali. Lungi dall’essere un fenomeno temporaneo, questo problema richiede risposte immediate, ma anche una più ampia riflessione sui diritti umani per affrontare nuove sfide a lungo termine.

In questo contesto intendiamo contribuire a un dibattito costruttivo a livello internazionale, assumendo un formato ‘glocal’ che trascende i confini e apre nuovi scenari per una più profonda comprensione di questa materia e delle persone coinvolte.

Cos’è un confine? È qualcosa che protegge o che ci divide? E se diventasse poroso? Sarebbe un rischio o un’opportunità?

Con questo TEDx Salon invitiamo i relatori e le nostre comunità ad esplorare il tema da più punti di vista, offrendo uno spazio sicuro per discutere un tema scomodo in modo singolare.
